Bahia Resort Hotel Completes Multi-Million Dollar Renovation Project

July 30, 2020

San Diego, CA – Bahia Resort Hotel, located on Mission Bay, finalized its renovation project that began in the fall of 2019. The renovation spanned across its 313 guest rooms, event spaces, grounds, public areas and dining locations. The renovation continued the resort’s Moroccan theme incorporating zellige inspired tile, stucco, arched entrances and open outdoor spaces.

Guest rooms were a focus of the renovation. There was a design overhaul creating a more bright and beachy esthetic with new wall coverings, carpeting and drapes. Each guest room was also upgraded with new furniture, 65” TVs, faster Wi-Fi, modern bathrooms, and kitchenettes with quartz countertops. General Manager Jim Chester elaborated, “Since opening in 1953, the Bahia has been a favorite among families and business travelers. We kept this in mind when updating the guest rooms. Ensuring features like kitchenettes remained, which are great for both family dining and spacious work stations.”

In addition, the lobby was expanded and LaCantina Doors were installed, creating a free flowing open concept. The expansion provided additional seating, both inside and outside. A beautiful handcrafted stucco fireplace was placed in the outdoor seating area of the resort’s signature restaurant, Café Bahia. The restaurant’s furniture was upgraded with Moroccan architecture-inspired tables and chairs with vibrant tile accents.

The renovation project also touched the resort’s nearly 20,000 square feet of event space. Upgrading the carpeting, wall coverings and window fixtures of all six event spaces. Additionally, the eight large chandeliers located in the Mission Bay Ballroom were detailed. The resort also opened a grab ‘n go café inside a repurposed Airstream. The café is located right outside the lobby and offers fast breakfast and lunch options, plus a variety of beverages. “We plan to utilize the Airstream for private events. It is mobile and would make a fun addition to any outdoor private gathering”, shared Chester.

The Bahia’s secluded beach area was refreshed with upgraded beach cabanas, plus an additional seating area was created on the beach with lounge beach chairs and umbrellas.

The Bahia continues to be a staple of the San Diego community and the team is excited to welcome new and longtime guests to the refreshed property.
