Day Trip Idea: Julian
Trade the beach for the mountains with a locals favorite day trip getaway. Julian is the adorable rustic town located just an hour from downtown San Diego. Experience the history of San Diego’s only gold rush through its charming main street and some must-do activities.
Oh Me, Oh Pie
No trip to Julian would be complete without a slice of warm, freshly baked apple pie. With quaint eateries dedicated to perfecting this nostalgic pastry, stop by favorites including Julian Pie Company, Apple Alley Bakery, or Mom’s Pies. If you visit in the autumn, check out the local you-pick apple orchards for a family-friendly activity with great photo opportunities.
Will Hike for Views
Julian is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and hiking trails for all levels. For a rewarding adventure that’s accessible for kids, try the Stonewall Peak Trail just south of Julian. Approximately 4 miles roundtrip, the hike leads you to the summit for 360 degree views of the surrounding areas.
Taking advantage of the plentiful orchards in the area, Julian Hard Cider is a delicious choice for quenching your thirst of warm afternoons. Try the Harvest Apple for a classic and crisp taste. In town, Blue Door Winery is a charming boutique winery located in a converted barn, or if you prefer beer, look no further than Nickel Beer Company on the east side of Julian.
